The PGA Championship in 2022 is the second Major of the year, and it features the game’s best players.

Scottie Scheffler won the Masters in April, and now Southern Hills Country Club is gearing up to host the next major.

Phil Mickelson won the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island last year for his sixth Major championship, but he will not defend his crown this week due to his recent off-the-course problems.

Another intriguing question is if Tiger Woods will participate.

The 15-time Major winner stunned the sporting world by appearing at the Masters, where he won his fourth PGA Championship at Southern Hills in 2007. He is performing in Tulsa.

Phil Mickelson pulled off a brilliant win at Kiawah Island to claim his sixth Major win at the PGA Championship last year

Date and timing of the 2022 PGA Championship

The PGA Championship will take place from Thursday, May 19 to Sunday, May 22.

Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma is hosting the event.

On the first two days, play will begin at 1pm UK time (7am in the United States), and on the weekend, play will begin at 2pm UK time.

The course for the 2022 PGA Championship

Southern Hills was designed by Perry Maxwell in the 1930s and will be 7,556 yards long with a par of 70.

Gil Hanse restored it to its current state in 2019 and it now reflects Maxwell’s original intention.

The first and 18th holes are spectacular, but the short par-4 17th may decide the event.

The 7th hole is one of the most difficult on the course, while the 12th is considered one of the best par 4s in the world.

The 2007 PGA Championship was contested at Southern Hills and was shorter (7131 yards) than this year.

Only five players finished under par, with Woods winning by a score of -8 over Woody Austin.

Leaderboard for the 2022 PGA Championship

After the first day of play, the leaderboard will be available.

Will Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson compete in the 2022 PGA Championship?

Woods will compete in the PGA Championship, and he claims that his fitness is improving.

While Woods performed admirably at the Masters, he was visibly suffering from his injury and doubted his ability to play.

“I’ve become a lot stronger since the Masters,” he stated earlier this week.

“After the Masters, we went back to work on Tuesday.” I did nothing on Monday, and Tuesday was leg day. So we immediately returned. “Everything has improved.”

“I think the endurance is there now,” said his caddy Joe LaCava. I don’t think he’s becoming as weary as fast as he used to.

Since the fallout from his inflammatory statements regarding the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed breakaway led by Greg Norman, Mickelson has taken a hiatus from golf.

On April 25, the six-time major winner officially registered for the US PGA and the US Open, as well as requesting a release from the PGA Tour to compete in the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series tournament from June 9-11, which was denied earlier this week.

Mickelson’s agent indicated at the time that he was simply keeping his options open and had no “clear plans” for a comeback.

PGA Championship 2022: Tee times

Woods will play in the first two rounds of the PGA Championship alongside Spieth and McIlroy.

After Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, and Gene Sarazen, Spieth has to win the Wanamaker Trophy to become the sixth player to win all four major championships.

On Thursday, the former world number one will begin his campaign at 08:11 local time (14:11BST).

Scheffler, Rahm, and Collin Morikawa, the top three players in the world and holders of the game’s other three major titles, will tee off at 13:36 local time in another high-profile group (19:36BST).

Before the cut on Friday night, 156 players will make up the field.
